Cannabis Awareness

Please be sure you understand that these laws are for Canada only and may differ in other parts of the world.

  •             If you are caught making (growing) cannabis plants you can be given a maximum of 7 years in prison.

  •             If you are caught importing or exporting cannabis you will be in prison for life.

  •             If you are caught with cannabis in your possession for the purpose of trafficking ( selling), you can be put in jail for life if you have more than 3 kilos on you and for a maximum of 5 years if the amount it less than 3 kilos.

  •             If you are caught in possession of cannabis for personal use you will be in jail for a maximum of 5 years if the amount is more than 30 gram of cannabis and one gram of cannabis resin. If you have smaller amounts then your maximum imprisonment is 6 months and you could be fined up to $1000.

  •            If you are under 18 years old your offence will be under the young offenders act. You may be punished differently depending on the crime. You could have to serve community service hours, be in custody for a duration of time and even have a criminal record.

  •            If you have a criminal record, you’re not allowed to leave the country for 5 years. If you are under 18 this stays unlit 5 years after you are convicted. This means that if you are convicted at 16 you can’t leave the country until you are21. A lot of young people think that their juvenile record is completely erased once they are 18 but that is not the case the things in your record can no longer be held against you but they remain in your file.
