Short term effects : If you and smoking marijuana, hashish or hash oil, you will feel the effects within minutes and they will last from 2 to 4 hours. If you are eating them the effects will come gradually and last much longer but you may feel lazy for a while after. These drugs impair your concentration and short-term memory. You may feel calm, relaxed or talkative. Colors will seem brighter and sounds will be more distinct. You will be more hungry than usual, and have a sweet tooth. This is commonly known as the munchies. You will not be able to tell time as well as normal. It may seem faster or slower. Some people experience fear, anxiety, depression, panic, terror, paranoia with larger doses. This can also bring hallucinations. Your balance and coordination will be impaired. You will have red eyes, dry mouth and throat, a rapid heart beat and you may feel drowsy. Cannabis does impair your driving ability, especially when mixed with alcohol. This is extremely dangerous.
Long term effects: Chronic users, meaning people who use cannabis regularly, may lose all motivation, and have a very difficult time remembering things and concentrating. These problems will diminish when they stop using the drug. They will also have breathing problems. One joint contains more tar than that of a very strong cigarette and cannabis has twice as many cancer-producing agents as tobacco smoke. If a mother is a chronic user during pregnancy, it is very likely that the baby will be affected with some sort of mental or physical defect.
